Embarring Period Question?

I'm 13, and I had my first period a couple of days ago. It was a Thursday, so the next day, of course, I had school. I know this sounds stupid, but when changing your pad, it's a little embarring when another person is in the bathroom. I try to make the "ripping sound" (when you unwrap a pad or take one off) discreet, but it's still pretty loud. And it's always awkward when you leave to wash your hands and the person is standing right there. Again, I know this may seem like a stupid question, but I need some advice. Thanks.
