Christians (except Catholics for this one, no offense)...do you accept the Pope as the earthly conduit to god?

If not, why is this one man essentially defining your religion by holding back certain texts or writings from everyone else? (Attempt to suppress Dead Sea Scrolls, etc). How can you know that you're getting the gospels and information as your god intended? And for that matter, when considering the bible itself, how can you be sure that politically minded men did not do the same sort of thing in order to maintain their power?
