Help with my PSP >.<?

Hey, I have a PSP with the number IC1003 on the right hand side, but also IC6001 on the left hand side behind a metal strip. I dont have a screwdriver small enough to take it apart and look at the motherboard. My question is can I downgrade this and run homebrew software? or will it brick my PSP?
