Is wheat actually bad for dogs?

Wheat is like sugar is for us... in smaller amounts it isnt a huge deal unless a dog is allergic to it. As a main ingredient it is horrible. There are some treats out there that dont have wheat but you have to go to the specialty pet shops to get them.
